Vintage bone jewelry - identification

Thank you for the time you spend in research, it was helpful. I have been trying to determine what kind of bone a vintage piece of Hobe jewelry is made from..........70 years old and ebay will not let me sell it unless I tell them what kind of animal it came from. I am researching this area and am afraid that that is impossible, but your site is very helpful..........Thanks
Ronnie

Hobe jewelry with bone
by: Anne Cecilie

Hi Ronnie,
Thank you for your kind words. Determining what sort of animal the bones used in vintage jewelry come from is not an easy task. I have found some sites for you where you can read more about how to identify whether it is ivory or bone, but I don?t know if your own identification will be enough for ebay or if you need someone professional to do it for you. I tried to find someone that could do that, but nothing came up. Still, museums probably have someone to identify their artifacts, but whether you can ask them for help or not, I also do not know. I hope these sites can help you more than I can, and wish you the best of luck.

Anne Cecilie
