Snake Mokume gane

by Linda
(Norway)

Finished beads

Finished beads

Finished beads Making the stack Winding up the bead Shaving the snake

Use the following colors: Copper, black, white, cognac, olive green, yellow.

Mix 1 part white and 1/8 cognac.
Mix 1 part olive and 1 part white
Mix 1 part cognac and 1/2 part yellow

Run the clay through the pasta machine on a medium setting. With a round shape cutter, cut out 5-6 pieces from each color. Stack them randomly and feed them into your clay gun.

Extrude a long, thin, round snake.

Make a black bead core.
Start winding the snake round the bead, until the whole bead is covered.

Use a tissue cutter and slice off pieces of the snake all around the bead. Smooth the surface by rolling it on your work surface.

Sand, buff and varnish your bead after curing.

You can vary the pattern by how you wind the snake around the bead core.

Good luck folks!

Linda :)

Thank you for a nice tutorial Linda.
I haven't actually thought of Mokume gane in this way, but of course it can be done like this.

I certainly will try it.

Take care!
